Quoted from https://www.w3.org/wbs/33280/ag-wg-charter-2026/results/ [[ We object to this charter because it unnecessarily and prematurely removes the possibility of future normative maintenance of WCAG 2.x. The proposed charter states that: > *"No normative changes will be undertaken through this charter."* This prohibition is unjustified. The AG WG itself has already identified the need for normative (Class 3) changes and is maintaining a list of such issues for possible future incorporation into a revision of WCAG 2.x. In parallel, National Bodies participating in the ISO/IEC 40500:2026 DIS ballot have submitted, or may submit, comments requesting normative corrections, including internationalization-related issues. These are not hypothetical possibilities. They represent concrete maintenance work that already exists. Horizontal reviews, particularly those from the Internationalization Working Group, may also identify significant normative issues. Such reviews have limited value if the Working Group is not permitted to make normative corrections when serious defects are identified. This charter would eliminate the only practical mechanism for addressing accumulated Class 3 issues during its lifetime. As a result, even technically justified normative corrections could not be incorporated into WCAG 2.x, regardless of their importance or the degree of consensus supporting them. We are **not** requesting that WCAG 2.3 be initiated immediately. We are requesting that this charter **not prohibit** such work in advance. The charter should explicitly preserve the possibility of a future normative revision of WCAG 2.x, should accumulated Class 3 issues justify it through the normal W3C consensus process. Closing that possibility at the charter level is premature and risks preventing the timely correction of significant defects identified through implementation experience, international review, and ISO/IEC maintenance. For these reasons, we object to approval of this charter in its current form. ]]
