This article describes a real problem well. But so far it looks like it's missing a good connection between describing the ad revenue problem for publishers and how this proposal would ameliorate it. This proposal's attribution tracking would apply to both * positive-externality, low-surveillance advertising (legit news sites) * negative-externality, high-surveillance advertising (app stores, social media, slop sites, infringing sites) and has built-in advantages for the latter group (statistical lower funnel bias, "sniping" problem). And the same browser/platform companies that have been, for a long time, shifting ad revenue away from news would somehow have to participate in an attribution tracking system that contradicts their own multi-decade efforts and corporate culture, which [seems unrealistic](https://www.adexchanger.com/data-driven-thinking/what-happens-when-the-attribution-cartel-meets-advertisings-halo-effect/). -- GitHub Notification of comment by dmarti Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/patwg/pull/98#issuecomment-5254434190 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
