Prereading: March 19, 2026 - COGA WCAG 3 Review

Hi everyone,

This Thursday, Len and I will be discussing our preliminary review of Text
and Wording <https://w3c.github.io/wcag3/guidelines/#text-and-wording>. In
preparation for that meeting, please spend a few minutes familiarizing
yourself with the following:

   1. Claude User Needs Mapping

   this is the spreadsheet we created that is based on Lisa and Eric's
   preliminary work.
   3. User Needs Themes, Created with Claude

   after reviewing all of the places for user needs, we came up with a list of
   206 user needs. This seemed overwhelming, so Len worked with Claude to
   develop "themes" that could possibly help chunk the needs into scannable
   lists that humans could use.

If time allows, we would also like to discuss how to effectively articulate
review workflows that will maximize the use of limited time and support
asynchronous as well as synchronous feedback cycles. While we are not
proposing that we do this exactly in the same way the Global-Inclusion
group did this, here are some sample documents that proved to be effective
for that group when they reviewed the very first round of feedback for WCAG
3 before there was a working draft in place.

While we had a homework sheet, some people were more faithful than others
about completing the homework, but those who did the homework helped drive
the discussion during the meetings. Those who did not get a chance to do
the homework were still able to comment on issues through the group
discussions. We were very careful not to shame anyone for not doing
homework and instead treated it as an opportunity to prepare for the
meetings or provide asynchronous feedback.
