I agree with your view on assuming that there is no hurry to fill up Phil's
vacancy and the normal procedure to have the new Board member elected by
October will be followed unless advised otherwise . It would also be useful
to include your question on whether the whole ICANN Board needs to be
elected next October or only those whose period of 3 years have expired. I
now doubt on whether or not we have to elect only 1 member because Phil's
term of office was going to expire in October anyhow, or whether we have to
elect the 3 Board members from the PSO.

Is the whole board re/elected in October or just those standing down?
My feeling is that even if we speed up the process we will not do much
better than appointing someone by end July. And is having someone on the
board two months earlier that critical.
So maybe it would be better to word the letter with the assumption that we
will stick with the current timescale unless Lynne advises us that he would
rather we appoint a replacement as soon as possible.
What do others think?
