Hamilton %Re: Working on Delta-V I notice a fair amount of chatter on whether Delta-V would (continue to) be chartered as an IETF working group. I haven't seen anything farther, but I wanted to add my two-cents worth. Speaking as the Document Management Alliance (DMA) Technical Committee Chair, I see the Delta-V effort as indispensable to raising the level of Web-enabled document management, especially around the management part, not only the authoring part. As we look to having the DMA model be web-enabled, our avenue is WebDAV and the Delta-V work, especially because it draws together a broader and different community than those who have focused on DMA for interoperability of production document-management systems. The open nature of IETF Working groups is important for providing such a community of expertise, review, and contribution from diverse interests. We have been talking about this at the DMA Alliance steering committee, and it is my sense that we know of no better forum or mechanism. I cannot speak for AIIM, the sponsor of DMA, but I for one am committed to the maximum amount of information interchange around the AIIM DMA work that has already been invested in a versioning model and seeing how to align the DMA work (which is not tied to HTTP), Web-enabled Document Management, and the efforts of Delta-V. This will at least take the form of members of DMA also participating on Delta-V and related IETF activities. Although we have a membership-based model for arriving at technical agreements, there is no impediment to informally sharing our work and participating on the IETF working group as well. We will do that and you can expect to see my own participation on Delta-V and related activities. -- Dennis
