In case anyone wonders why one would want to do such a thing, look up the
"Droste effect." Pictures containing nested copies of themselves has been
an artistic idiom for quite some time. I don't know if SVG officially
supports it (presumably via <use href="" transform="…"/>) but it is a thing
people might plausibly want.
