Subject: Updated CFC – Updating WCAG 3 working draft ends Friday, May 10th at 10:00 Boston time.

Hello,

We made several changes to the framing language today during the meeting. This restarts the CFC but based on our processes it will still end on Friday at 10 am.

Please review the changes which are listed below. The full publication including these changes can be viewed on Github PR 63<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://github.com/w3c/wcag3/pull/63__;!!EDx7F7x-0XSOB8YS_BQ!ed7FYbpZQQyfji4LEKEQicfGGrM18IzPMl9JKe49OFz6TyshiNchbHfGp8f9jZccqF9y--DLqLqN0cPo4qJn21Xb$> or RawGit<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/30-april-meeting/guidelines/index.html__;!!EDx7F7x-0XSOB8YS_BQ!ed7FYbpZQQyfji4LEKEQicfGGrM18IzPMl9JKe49OFz6TyshiNchbHfGp8f9jZccqF9y--DLqLqN0cPo4naZENGp$>.

If you previously responded and want to change your support, please reply to this with a -1. If you continue to support with these changes, no action is needed. Thank you.

Changes:

  1. We changed "The final version of WCAG 3 will not include all of these outcomes. We also expect changes and clarifications of Outcomes such as: The text of the Outcomes will change the text listed in this version, and Only some of the Outcomes will be required to meet the base level of conformance." to "The final set of outcomes in WCAG 3 will be different than the list in this draft. Outcomes will be added, combined, and removed. We also expect changes to the text of the Outcomes. Only some of the Outcomes will be required at the base level of conformance." (line 42 in the file)

  2. We moved two paragraphs down from the abstract to section 1.1 About WCAG 3. That section now reads "There are many differences between WCAG 2 and WCAG 3. The WCAG 3 guidelines address accessibility of web content on desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, wearable devices, and other web of things devices. The guidelines apply to various types of web content including static, dynamic, interactive, and streaming content; visual and auditory media; virtual and augmented reality; and alternative access presentation and control. These guidelines also address related web tools such as user agents (browsers and assistive technologies), content management systems, authoring tools, and testing tools.

Call for Consensus - ends Friday, May 10th at 10:00 Boston time.

This CFC is to update the WCAG 3 working draft with the exploratory guidelines the group has been working on. The purpose of publishing this initial list is to:

  * better understand the scope of needs,
  * request assistance in identifying gaps, and
  * request assistance locating and conducting research to validate or invalidate the outcomes listed.

The chairs made a few changes based on comments and feedback since the Tuesday meeting.

  1. Updated the editor's note at the beginning of the guidelines section<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html*guidelines__;Iw!!EDx7F7x-0XSOB8YS_BQ!dcHnQiimufKA5LPVT38dzEomymz9ERg9pOSML0Mp3qfQ-hLR4d6ZBtnix6TsmBcJHDrlVlapkuzK6uxFE3Z-eA$>.
  2. Added Editors notes to items that need additional research
  3. Updated Focus Retention with the suggested text from meeting
  4. Added the word "visual" to "Use of depth" so it now reads "Use of Visual Depth - Information is not conveyed with visual depth alone."
  5. Removed Focus Restored as a duplicate of Restore Focus
  6. Removed Keyboard Mode under components as an exact duplicate of Keyboard Mode under input

The proposed updates can be viewed on:

  *   Github PR 63<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://github.com/w3c/wcag3/pull/62__;!!EDx7F7x-0XSOB8YS_BQ!dcHnQiimufKA5LPVT38dzEomymz9ERg9pOSML0Mp3qfQ-hLR4d6ZBtnix6TsmBcJHDrlVlapkuzK6uzvdiOJkA$>

  *   RawGit Preview<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html__;!!EDx7F7x-0XSOB8YS_BQ!dcHnQiimufKA5LPVT38dzEomymz9ERg9pOSML0Mp3qfQ-hLR4d6ZBtnix6TsmBcJHDrlVlapkuzK6ux9aWHS4Q$>

If you have concerns about this proposed consensus position that have not been discussed already and feel that those concerns result in you “not being able to live with” this decision, please let the group know before the CfC deadline.

Kind regards,

Rachael
