I would also like to transition this API towards a Promise-returning style but I think tying this to a user activation requirement will incentivize developers to keep using the old style. I think the [page embedded permission control](https://github.com/WICG/PEPC/blob/main/explainer.md) will provide a better user experience for permissions like geolocation overall.
