Despite the expand-tabs property, there doesn't seem to be any way to
actually set the tab stops? Is this true? Are there any plans to add it
in the future?

perhaps instead of being a boolean expand-tabs could be an integer
specifying the number of spaces each tab appears at, thoguh that only
really works in monospaced fonts. Perhaps it should then be a list of
lengths identifying the tab stops?
