XSD and attributes

Hi all...
Is it possible to insert and attribute and its corresponding value, into
a XML document, using the XSD like it is possible to do with DTD?
When I load a XML document which is linked to a XSD with IE or Xerces,
the insertion is not done, where as if the document is linked to a DTD,
the attribute is inserted into the required node.
