attribute type

hi there,

         If i want to validate the data to be entered for a given attribute is only string and i also would like to give provision to enter some  special characters  like ' * ' ,   '  (  '    ,  '   )  ' .what type of built in attribute will help me validate this.??????
Right now im using xs:Name as the type for the attribute..
