dateTime and pattern

Hi, 
Lexical representation of dateTime (3.2.7 Datatypes) is
CCYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss. I was wondering if pattern can be used to specify
concatenated version of dateTime, for example, to allow format
CCYY-MM-DD?
