Work is in progress to add schema support to Xerces-C. And subset support will be available in the upcoming Xerces C 1.5 release (should be ready in next couple of weeks). See http://xml.apache.org/xerces-c/schema.html for further detail. In the meantime, you can try out the latest nightly build http://xml.apache.org/dist/xerces-c/nightly/ .
