Looks like maybe XML Spy is complaining about a derivation pattern
such as

      root
       |
       |    extension
       |
  intermediate
       |
       |    restriction
       |
     final

where the means of derivation changes?  I don't see a problem
with your schema -- what does the XML Spy helpdesk say?
