Can I combine Schema and DTD ??

Hi,

I am using apache 1.2.3 java parser.

I have an xml file whose grammar is defined in a DTD.
I have another Schema which defines aggregation rules (AVG, MIN, MAX) to
be
applied on the elements of xml document. 

now my problem is that i have to use the DTD (which defines elements
grammar)
inside the schema which defines only aggregation rules.


how can i do that ?? 
hope i am clear.

pls save me and let me know if i reuqire myself to be more clear.
any kind of help will be appreciated.
