FW: [ncipimp] Inaugural Meeting of NCIP Implementers Group

The NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol has been approved.

The inaugural NCIP Implementers Group meeting is scheduled to be held on 2-4
October in Denver CO, hosted by The Library Corporation. The likely venue
will be the Four-Points by Sheraton Denver University, close the TLC Denver
offices. A block of rooms is being held by the hotel at a corporate rate of
$79. Specific reservation and agenda information will be distributed soon
but we wanted to alert interested parties to the dates and venue. The first
day will be a workshop to present an overview of the protocol and its uses
for implementers.

Who Should Attend and Why

The meeting will be most useful to technical staff of organizations
or vendors who are actively working with the protocol A number of people
who have been active in the work of the committee to write the protocol
will attend and the first day is planned to help get newcomers up to speed.
Participation in the second and third days will allow attendees to help
to contribute to the formation of the group which is intended to assist
implementers of the protocol. There will be discussion of how the group
should be organized and how consensus should be reached within the group.
Finally there will be discussion of the application profiles and how
they will be used.

The most up-to-date information on the protocol itself is available from the
NISO site. Final changes are being done and responses to comments are being
completed:

There is a listserv for discussion by those implementing NCIP. For details

There is a web site for implementers at:

Please reserve these dates if you plan to attend the meeting and I would
appreciate receiving an email saying you will attend so that we can plan
for the facilities. In addition to an overview of the protocol, the agenda
will include discussion of the existing application profiles and discussion
of the structure and procedures for the implementer's group. We hope anyone
working with the protocol will be able to participate in the group whether
or not you are able to attend this first meeting.
