Betr.: BIBOS:IV goes ZNG?

Sorry for this late reaction but as you requested information about the availability of ZNG client and servers, there are so few that it might be usefull to point to our experimental client, that I use for testing our SRU server.
This client can be started via: http://www.kb.nl/persons/theo/zngdbs.xml
An interesting thing is that this file is itself an SRU-response wich is transformed with a XSL stylesheet. The resulting page allows you to do a distibruted SRU search in different servers. The XSL transformation is done at the client. You can change the XSL-stylesheet by selecting another layout. Search on "test" and something should work.

It only works with IE and there may be a security issue involved here. You have to set your browser to allow access between domains, otherwise the files need to be copied to your pc.

The "collection level demo" (the last in the list) is an interesting demo. When you display the result with the "simple demo stylesheet" you get a list of records, some of which correspond to a searchable webdatabase and some correspond to a SRU-server. You can again enter a search term (e.g "rembrandt") and a distributed search will result. When you choose "select" and the result will be a new starting page with only the selected SRU-targets. This concept allows you to make a registry of SRU-targets that can be selected on subject or other criteria and then do a distributed search only in those selected targets.

My name is Michael Manoch and I am working on a library system called BIBOS:IV.
BIBOS:IV is a system to support most (all?) of the needs for libraries and
should also work for museums, archives, ...

Since only search/retrieval is on interest for Z39.50 applications, here are
some project specifications:

technical project specifications for our RetrievalService:
Thin client application written in Java.
Fat server application written in C++.
Communication between client and server via CORBA (Orbix2000).
Data stored in XML format in ORACLE databases, made fultext searchable via
   FULCRUM.
Data exchange between client and server in XML format.

general project specifications for our RetrievalService:
Library format is MAB2 with additional information.
Supports an unrestricted number of independent libriaries.
Libraries can build a consortium (= they use the same catalog).

For search/retrieval we have a web service (tomcat webserver with java servlet;
java servlet communicating with our C++ RetrievalServer via CORBA).

We are interested in implementing a Z39.50 client and server.
On visiting http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/zng.html I have seen a lot of
anologies in ZNG and our search/retrieval service.

So I would need (detailed) info about writing ZNG client/server.
Will ZNG become a (the?) Z39.50 standard?
What ZNG clients/servers are now available and what are their specifics?
Are there any ZNG clients/servers to be available soon?

Yours sincerly

Michael Manoch
