RE: Bib-2 and the DC-Lib

Kevin

You and your colleagues at BL obviously have more expertise in DC-Lib than I
do. Therefore, I would welcome your input into this issue. Could you
please be more explicit on your concerns and identify which are the access
points you have identified as being extended in different ways in Bib-2 and
DC-Lib, describe the nature of the documents and databases that you envisage
will be described using the DC-Lib metadata elements and spell out the
problems that you foresee will be encountered.

Thanks,
Barb

I suggest you look at
http://dublincore.org/documents/2001/10/12/library-application-profile/
which triggered my interest in this debate. I'm not sure that what is being
included in DC-Lib should go into the XD Attribute Set. DC-Lib seems to be
profiling additional data elements that can be used in the library community
and therefore shouldn't go in the XD set. My concern is that Bib-2 is
extending the access points in a different way to DC-Lib and this is likely
to cause problems searching for documents described using the DC-Lib
metadata elements.

I'd be glad to give it away or maintain it myself. I've not been following
Dublin Core activities, so I'm not aware of any divergences. Let me know
what you want and I'll take care of it.
