how is a chinese or japanese font-family infop supported

I am currently using the fop of Apache.org and I have problems to a chinese
or japanese font.
My text in xml consists of western and asian letters/characters, but I can
not transform it into a pdf-file that displays both sets.
Does anybody know the answer?
