FO extension for document info

I don't know if this has been proposed, but it seems like a useful FO extension: many document formats allow for document info (author, preparing program [creator], date, creation date, subject and/or title, etc) fields.

It strikes me that a mechanism for doing so in FO would be nice, and I'm looking for some feedback. I'll have some ideas myself later on today. It obviously can be quite a simple thing, and obviously an implementation-neutral way of doing it, with maybe an agreed-upon way of registering new fields, would be cool.

I suggest that existing fields and categorizations used in BibTeX may be of some use, and that we should certainly consider the concept of an indexing key (or keys) for uniquely identifying the document. If anyone has extra knowledge of how document management systems work, and what they normally look for, this is the time to bring that knowledge to bear. :-) I used to know (fair amount of work with PCDOCS, etc etc), but that is all in the mists...
