Neil, You reported to the XML Schema workgroup an issue that we have been tracking in our bug reporting system as our bug #2832 [1]. The XML Schema workgroup most recenty discussed this issue on its teleconference of 28 March 2007. The members of the workgroup could not at that time reach consensus on making any changes to be reflected in XML Schema 1.1. Since the concerns you raised are believed to have merit, the issue is being closed for now with a status of LATER, which we use as an indicator of issues that we may wish to revisit if at some point in the future a version of XML Schema beyond version 1.1 is released. I am sorry that we did not make more progress on this issue at this time, but I hope that you find this resolution to be acceptable. Thank you.
