XML Schema Part 2

In clause 3.2.8.1 it is stated that 
"Every two character unit of the representation that is ommitted is indicated by a single hyphen"
but the example shows a case where 
CCYY-05-31 etc is abbreviated to --05-31 etc - 
apparently four characters "CCYY" have been replaced by a single "-"
