The scenario that you were discussing with xpeak looks
like some of the motivation behind my suggestion for a
hex datatype.  XPeak could be represented as a derived
type from a hex datatype with a minInclusive and
maxExclusive of 0x0 and 0x0F.  The real value it maps
to could be expressed in a redundant real attribute in
case you needed to do something with the value in XSLT
or something.
