At XML DevCon 2001 in NYC, Paul Cotton asked for comments on whether to work for a reteive only or a full function version of XQuery. Please, get a RETRIEVE version of XQUERY out as soon as possible. I'm trying to put together an application that will replace a relational database. The end-users are currently doing retrieve only SQL.
