When is an arc not an arc?

I would like to suggest that the use of the term "arc", "traversal arc" and
"directional traversal arc" within the XLink Rec be reviewed.

The term "arc" is defined in Chapter 2.2 to include the notion of "direction
of traversal".

If so, then what additional or alternative meaning do the terms "traversal
arc" (undefined, I think) and "directional traversal arc" (undefined, I
think) have?

What is the purpose of the term "traversal arc"? Is there a concept of a
non-traversal arc? I suspect not.

I assume that "traversal arc" and "directional traversal arc" are synonyms
for the defined term "arc". Is that correct?

If a term "arc" is defined doesn't it do a disservice to clarity to use
several different variant terms to indicate one meaning?
