Fujitsu XLiP Processor - persistent problems

[I appreciate that strictly this list isn't for discussing practical problems 
but hope the powers that be will tolerate this post, not least because it 
doesn't relate to Viagra, life insurance, stainless steel or other frequent 
associates of spam.]

I am presently having problems in getting the new version of the 
Fujitsu XLiP processor to run. The "offending" version is the 
xlinkdemo13en.exe which creates an executable jar file dated 9th 
February 2002.

I have downloaded and installed the file several times but it always 
fails to open any files. It gives an error: "XLinkDataset is created 
Illegally" with "Datamodel creation error".

I tried it also on XLink-containing files which I know work but it 
produced the same errors with those.

Any suggestions?
