Re: Ann: Web Services Architecture Requirements published (fwd)

All

I'm a little concerned by the restrictive definition of a web service in
this document (I'd be more concerned if it wasn't a draft).

D-AC012 [1] states that the WSAWG will "identify or create user
scenarios and use cases". In addition, D-AC009 [2] states that the WSA
is "is aligned with the semantic web initiative at W3C". However, the
definition of a web service (WS) in the requirements document is
restricted to its interfaces, whereas the 'Ubiquitous Computing' use
case identified by WebOnt[3] identifies the need to describe a WS in
terms of its semantics, i.e. "what it does, rather than how" (which is
also reflected in the WSA requirements D-AR003.2 [4]).

Furthermore, there's no mention in the definition of a WS for the need
to describe QoS issues. However, in D-AC018 [5] there's mention of a
need to _measure_ QoS. IMHO it's important to be able to describe a web
service in QoS terms, such as its availability, reliability, cost,
expected response time, etc.
