It's already been mentioned on this list, but an announcement is still
in order:

SSML 1.0 say-as attribute values
http://www.w3.org/TR/2005/NOTE-ssml-sayas-20050526/

Abstract:

The say-as element in SSML 1.0 is considered one of the most useful
elements of the language. However, SSML 1.0 does not define the values
of the attributes of this element. This Note provides definitions for
these attributes that cover many of the most common use cases for the
say-as element.
