Best linux distro for the W3C markup validator?

Hi all,

I'm having some problems trying to install the markup validator from
source following the instructions on
http://validator.w3.org/docs/install.html

What's the preferred linux distribution for this?

I've tried on Ubuntu Lucid 32 bits and Ubuntu Precise 64 bits and I'm
finding problems with OpenSP.
