I found their tracker about 15 seconds after I sent my original mail. :-/ A little action happened on http://bugzilla.validator.nu/show_bug.cgi?id=755 before finally culminating in an HTML spec bug, http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=10146. This thread is now deprecated. :-)
