There are third-party options:
http://www.htmlhelp.com/  - windows (shareware)
http://www.webthing.com/software/validator-lite/ - *X (not maintained -
you'll probably have to get the hands dirty to build it).

Or at its simplest, just run any of the OpenSP tools from the
commandline.
