Note that the upcoming version of the validator is integrated with  
tidy, which will try to automatically fix broken markup.

That's not equivalent to the "did you mean foo?" feature, which I  
agree would be very nice indeed. Given the timeline of the upcoming  
version of the validator, I think, however, that such a feature would  
be considered for a later version.
