Forcing validation when headings/paragraphs are nested inside an anchor

The h3 and p tags in the following fail validation as XHTML 1.0
Transitional (and Strict also):

<a href="http://www.pcpro.co.uk" >
	<h3>Category Name</h3>
	<img src="test.jpg" />
	<p>Category winner</p>
</a>

This passes validation by wrapping the h3 or p inside empty object tags:

<a href="http://www.pcpro.co.uk" >
	<object><h3>Category Name</h3></object>
	<img src="test.jpg" />
	<object><p>Category winner</p></object>
</a>

Does the validator just ignore HTML that is nested in an object tag, or is
this expected?
