Accept-Type

I've got a web-site that serves my pages with the Content-Type:
application/xhtml+xml.

Problem is, I'm checking for whether the requesting browser accepts this
encoding, and if not, I then redirect to an error-page.

Your validator is falling into this 'trap'.
My proposal is for you to include application/xhtml+xml in the Accept
header you are sending to the web-server.
