That's the old version of the W3C validator, misparsing nsgmls output.
It's been fixed for many months in the development version.
 
See <URL:http://valet.webthing.com/xml/> for an explanation of why
this misparsing happens (and one reason Valet doesn't have that problem).
You can of course use Page Valet to validate your page.
