Subject: error in html4.0 strict validator?

    Hi
It seems that the HTML 4.01 Strict validator on your webpage
(http://validator.w3.org) is the only version which validates
    <hr /> as an error. All other versions (2.0, 3.2, 4.0 Transitional,
and also XHTML 1.0 Transitional and Strict) validate this as
correct. Somehow I think it is unlikely that only HTML 4.0 should
forbid this construct, whereas it should be ok in previous and
later versions. Is the validator incorrect here?
    Greetings, A.Nirkko
