I now have solved the problem for editing a page for which the "umlaut fix" was made. 1. Write the page with all vowels with umlauts written in the form "Xuml;" where X is the vowel needing an umlaut. Publish the page. 2. View and copy the page needing editing on a source code viewer site that does not number the lines of code. I used http://capnfila.com/SV/ 3. Paste the copied code into a new web page, give it a new name, edit as desired, and publish the new corrected page. 4. Delete the original page. 5. Change the name of the new page to that of the deleted original page. The above procedure avoids replacement of the "Xuml;" terms with umlauted vowels that occurs when one edits the original page, which takes one back to where one started before correction. Changing a page title causes no problem, but editing does. To add more complexity, some American source code viewer sites will show the "Xuml;" terms, as does the W3C validator. Others show the vowels with umlauts instead.
