Charset encoding

I was testing a page in a multiple byte character encoding (Shift-JIS). The
validator correctly identified the encoding, but then output a whole bunch
of "Error: non SGML character number ###" errors on the text of the
document. I think it should import into an internal Unicode representation
before validating. Michael
