Neither the :nth-of-type error or background-color warning seem to be
a problem using the validator at
http://qa-dev.w3.org:8001/css-validator/ (which I was not previously
aware of) as they were with the validator at
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/.

I assume the former is the development version of the latter. So,
either someone was very quick in fixing this or it had already been
noticed and taken care of. If they had already been noticed, I'm
sorry to have wasted your time.

Out of curiosity, what is the relationship between the two
validiators, and what criteria (if any) causes updates on qa-dev to be
moved to jigsaw?

Thanks,

Keith
