For some time now (weeks? months?), http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
cannot find

   <link rel="StyleSheet" href=...

in HTML documents whenever the attribute

   type="text/css"

is missing.

Will this behaviour continue?
If so, why?
Is the attribute  type="text/css"  required for <link>?
