Edric, I'm with you on this. Over the past couple of months I've been updating our organization's web page to be XHTML compliant, which I've done. All my .css validates, but I get the same message as you. So I can only assume that if I get no errors or warnings that I must be using valid .css. But you're right, in the XHTML you get the "good job - heres a way to show you've done the job properly" image.
