A lot of people agree with you Andrew!

We have started to setup a registry service at:

  http://metadata.net/

and plan to populate with common metadata schemas
with various human and machine-readable files hosted
there.

For example, we propose to use PICS as _one_ of the
mechanisms for Metadata schema registration as outlined
in:

  http://www.dstc.edu.au/RDU/PICS/proposal02.html
