So far, LDAP has been a TCP/IP clone of DAP, the OSI X.500 Directory Access 
Protocol.  X.500 directories are for people and other people-like entities 
(like corporations).  So LDAP is not relevant here.

FWIW, LDAP will likely have an influence on the Web, as it will provide a 
standard method to get public-key information for people.
