I would not characterize most others as having complained. They instead
expressed opinions. And by expressing those opinions, they did not
necessarily agree that to having the responsibility for resolving the
comment be handed over to the chairs of the group rather than be left to
the discretion of the editor.

I will concede that. However, that does not mean they necessarily felt
strongly enough about it to agree that it merited requiring the editor to
make hundreds of changes to spec.

I do respect that others have different opinions. But I'd really also like
for you to remember that fact that editors have a right to make decisions
about matters of formatting and style and not have to spend inordinate
amounts of time to have those decisions second-guessed literally year after
he fact.

We have a very small number of editors working on specs that define the
core behavior of the Web platform, and they are a major asset to the work
we are all doing together, and they each have a discrete amount of time
available to do the work they're doing. So because their time and attention is
extremely valuable, I would suggest it is prudent that we try to ensure as
much as we can that we help to keep their time and attention focused on
resolving substantive technical issues that make an actual in the core
behavior of the platform.
