No, that's not how it works, though it may look like that over a short 
enough time period. Consider the gradual replacement of tables and 
presentational markup by XHTML and CSS. In the long term, the right 
approach often does win. Other, ongoing examples:

REST vs. WS-*
HTTP authentication vs. cookies
Atom vs. RSS

The right approach does not always win overnight, but over time it does win.
