Summary of TAG activity from 2 July to 7 August 2002

Dear www-tag,

This is a summary of the TAG's activity from 2 July 2002
(end date of the previous summary [1]) to 7 August 2002.

The TAG had four teleconferences during this period; summaries of
those meetings are linked from the TAG home page [2].

During the current period, the TAG has primarily:

1) Published the following findings:

"Using Qualified Names (QNames) as Identifiers in Content":
     http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/doc/qnameids

     --------
     Abstract

The question that prompted this finding was "are QNames
acceptable replacements for URIs as identifiers within
specifications?" This finding documents the TAG's opinion on
the use of QNames as identifiers.
     --------

"Consistency of Formatting Property Names, Values, and
     Semantics"
     http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/doc/formatting-properties

     --------
     Abstract

The use of named formatting properties to influence the
presentation of documents on the Web has become
widespread. As XML vocabularies are now being combined in
many ways, it is imperative that a common set of property
names, values, and semantics be maintained.

This finding establishes an architectural principle to that
     effect.
     --------

2) Discussed the following issues in substance:

    - httpRange-14 : What is the range of the HTTP dereference
                     function?
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#httpRange-14

URIEquivalence-15 : When are two URI variants considered
			equivalent?
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#URIEquivalence-15

3) Accepted the following new issues:

    - contentTypeOverride-24 : Can a specification include rules
for overriding HTTP content type parameters?
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#contentTypeOverride-24

    - deepLinking-25 : What to say in defense of principle that
deep linking is not an illegal act?
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#deepLinking-25

4) Reached a decision on the following issues:

    - qnameAsId-18
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#qnameAsId-18

    - formattingProperties-19
      http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/ilist#formattingProperties-19

5) Architecture Document

While there has not been a new draft of the architecture
document since the previous summary, the TAG has contributed
text for the next draft. The TAG expects to have a first public
Working Draft by the end of August.
