Delighted to come across considerable work on SVG2 and such gems as vector-effects and variable stroke widths. Congratulations.

SVG2: gradientUnits = "1d"

Desired solution: linearGradient stroke along a path or polyline,
ie related to distance along path**, not user or bb space

for a simple S radialGradient is reasonably effective cheat.
but say figure '4' fails badly.

Text along a path, and the rest would need to be considered.

addenda, something similar to css ease-in style rules would be great too.
ie simple description of how the ink, or paint is used.
these seem easier to use (or is it just me) than the current stop system.
anyway an alternative potential method

**apologies if this has been marked elsewhere, but I failed to find.
