I see what you mean. For someone just reading the spec I think this is merely a nice-to-have but for the case you describe I can see the need for it. However, the tool we use for generating the udom is not easily extendable to cater for this. (and we're not using xmlspec). Even if the svg WG will not be able to address this in the SVGT1.2 version of the spec it will be strongly considered for the following version.
