I agree. Then why is there a need for editable text fields in SVG?

Widget are beyond the scope of SVG (they were proposed and rejected). 
Providing the primitives for people to create widgets using SVG is more 
than 100% on target. Create your forms with XForms, create the skin with 
SVG. Small bits of glue had to be applied here and there, but otherwise 
it's great.
