<STYLE>, <FONT> et al

Has any thought been given to actually deprecating (or even omitting all 
together) presentational elements (not just FONT but B, I and TT) in DTDs 
that allow style sheets? Of course, omission wouldn't be possible in the 
case of LINKed style sheets but that raises the additional question, why 
use LINK at all? Would there be advantages in doing external style sheets 
using an attribute on STYLE rather than LINK?
